A brief overview of file formats generally used with images.
- JPEG is used in the majority of the camera that are not SLR cameras. The SLR cameras have the option to use this file format and the RAW file format. the jpeg is a compression files format and is used for images that are uploaded into the web, and for email.
- PSD, PDD are the file extensions that Photoshop used to save the information about the changes you make to ta file using the Photoshop programs. It is the default extension when you save a file. The extension can be changed using the drop down menu when saving a file.
- TIFF can be used to save a picture if you want to continue working with it in other programs namely Word or Publisher
- RAW files must be processed with software before it is considered a photography. working with this type of file allows the adjustments to be made to the image without losing any pixels. The finished product is then saved with any of the extensions above for viewing.
